Here is the sermon I preached on Sunday, 28 February, 2021, at Putney Methodist Church. Sadly, I have struggled lately to find the time to put pen to paper (finger to keyboard!) to write up my sermon notes. The challenges of church leadership in an age of pandemic are proving rather too much! Here, therefore, is a link to the sermon from the video of the full service we uploaded onto our website.
This is the second sermon in our Lenten series, ‘Tell me the stories of Jesus’. Each week we are looking at a different Gospel story and reflecting on two key questions: (i) what does the story tell us about Jesus; and (ii) what does it tell us about me? My text was John 11:1-45 (The Raising of Lazarus) but instead of simply reading the text, we saw a dramatisation of it from the 2003 film, The Gospel of John, which I think is one of the best films of its kind. You can see the full version on YouTube here and the section we saw here. The sermon itself can be viewed here; I hope you find this reflection on that story helpful in this difficult time.
